TERRESTRIAL BIOMES
Tundra
There are 2 types of Tundra, the Arctic Tundra and the Alpine Tundra. Both have poor tree growth due to low temperatures, and short growing seasons. It is very windy, and both are at a high altitude. Rain fall and snow fall are generally slight because the cold temperatures limit the chances of the atmosphere to hold water vapor.
Taiga/Boreal Forest
The Taiga biome is the largest land biome in the world, and sits at a very high altitude. It is characterized by many tree's and extremely cold temperatures.
Temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands
The biome consists of grasses and/or shrubs. The climate is temperate and semi-arid to semi-humid. It experiences warm to hot seasons with cold to freezing season in winter.
Desert shrublands
This biome receives only a small amount of moisture. It gets an average rainfall of ten inches or less, and has an arid or hyperarid climate. Deserts shrublands occur in tropical, subtropical, and temperate climate regions.
Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub
Is a temperate biome, characterized by dry summers and mild and rainy winters. Summers are typically hot in low-lying inland locations but can be cool near some seas. Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub eco-regions occur in the world's five Mediterranean Climate zones.
